Curves ahead
Having a plan, envisioning where you want to go can be very inspirational, exciting and fulfilling. It can get you in your groove and set you on a course for your dreams. Everything you want is within your sight, straight ahead of you.
But sometimes, just as you’re gaining momentum and speed on the straight and narrow, a curve arises on the road to your dreams.
The curve is usually unexpected and often disheartening. It’s easy to get angry, and become overwhelmed with panic or despair.
The truth is that this curve is just a moment in time in the overall scope of your life. The unknown and unexpected is all part of it. Wise ones have said on these curves is where the real growth and learning occur. Upon this growth we build our next adventures, and move on to the next stretch of straight and narrow speedway...of course until the next curve sneaks up on us.
Curves being part of the grand scheme is all fine and good, but when you are in the midst of careening that hairpin, gripping the wheel in fear, it can be nothing short of terrifying. Here some ways to gain perspective and bring some peace of mind when you get the bends:
Play the long game. Zoom way out! Take yourself out of the intensity of the specific moment and see how this affects the greater whole of your life story.
Look for the learnings and the opportunities. So things are gonna be different, what can you see from this new lane that you didn’t before? Perhaps it brings into focus what really matters the most, or an alternative, more creative route to achieve the same goal.
Challenge the inner critic. When she starts spinning her story of doom and destruction, you can stop the cycle of doubt and ask yourself a simple question, “How true is that - really?”
Have faith. Tap into your understanding of why things happen the way they do. Faith is stronger than proof and when you can embrace the faith, you begin to truly understand that you are exactly where you are supposed to be.
There’s so much of your life ahead that it’s impossible to see where it’s going. So buckle up, lean into those curves, and remember you are still in the drivers seat on the road to your dreams.
